It's been over a year since we've had the pleasure to go to the local strip clubs in Terre Haute. We've made new friends. Friends we never would have made if we never went. Friends that have and will impact our lives for eternity. I don't say that lightly. I think I can speak for my entire team when I say that God has used this ministry and the women and men we have met to teach us things about ourselves and grow us in our walks with Jesus and understanding of WHO He is and WHY we are doing what we're doing.
It makes me humble. It makes me realize the need for so many in our local community who need community and love. It keeps in front of me the urgency that we as believers must have, as we live out our lives and do life with those we cross paths with. We can't stay so isolated. We can't focus so inwardly. We have to look up from our phones when we're out and about. Smile at the cashier. Take time to have genuine, empathetic conversations with our co-workers and serve them where they are.
It's easy to have expectations for everyone around you. We all want to be served, loved, respected, and noticed. But we rarely take the time to do the same for others. We rob ourselves of amazing opportunities to meet people who we never thought could teach us anything or speak into our lives; to come along side us and bless us while we bless them.
We don't have all the answers, nor do we have all the resources. I rest knowing that Jesus is working. Jesus changes hearts daily. Jesus pulls people to him. Jesus rescues us. Jesus alone saves. I simply love and obey. It's amazing what loving the world around you and obeying Jesus can do to impact the world. Even if it's one person at time. Even if it only changes me. I WILL OBEY.
5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
17 This is my command: Love each other.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
